Many good things come out of an O.E, but not often does a band form. However that’s exactly what happened with indie pop group The Map Room, when Kiwi musicians Brendon Morrow and Simon Gooding took their love of music on a yearlong trip across South America. The boys met while studying audio engineering across the ditch and returned home for a stint of writing music together before they made their way through Argentina and Colombia. Armed with a portable recorder and two old acoustic guitars purchased from an antique store in Buenos Aires, they began on what has become The Map Room’s debut album.

We were lucky enough to hear a preview of the album and can confidently say the ten tracks – including debut single “All You’ll Ever Find” – are a transient and dynamic collection of songs with sounds reminiscent of Radiohead, Metronomy, Grizzly Bear and Phoenix.

The Einstein Music Journal agrees, calling The Map Room “full of layers… the duo’s music is sculptural and delicate.” Like these guys on Facebook at www.facebook.com/themaproomband and keep your ears to the ground about shows coming to a town near you very soon! These guys have promised to hit the road as soon as the video for “All You’ll Ever Find” is released, so if you like what you hear then you might be seeing them very shortly.
