Puma x Butter Goods: Sneakers & Apparel
Footwear and apparel collection inspired by vintage sports advertising
Australian skate brand Butter Goods has united with the iconic sneaker label, Puma for a wide-reaching, nostalgic and heavy '90s inspired footwear and clothing collection.
Garth Mariano and Matthew Evans founded Butter Goods with a passion for skateboarding, art and design. The two grew up creating skate films and showcasing their skills, once they reached adulthood they realised they didn't want the life of a standard 9 to 5 job. Soon after, the pair quit their jobs and pursued the creation of Butter Goods, a now world-renowned skate and streetwear brand bringing fresh ideas into the fashion industry.
With this collaboration, they pay homage to the aesthetic which started it all, the late '90s and early 00's. Highlighting the golden era of both skateboarding and sportswear, this collection brings signature Puma styles, re-imagined with vintage colourways, quality fabrics and a premium finish. “The late ‘90s/early 2000s were full of bold colours, baggy cuts and technical fabrics and finishings,” says Mariano. “We've mixed that influence with some toned back, classic stylings too.”
The Basket VTG sneaker is featured in two vintage hues, a blue and orange colourway brought in a thick corduroy upper and contrasting sued form strip at the side. A classic style in the sneaker community, these shoes are finished with a textured outsole, custom woven label at the tongue and a slick, gold foil motif on the heel.
The collection also brings along Butter Goods' rendition of the infamous Puma Slipstream Lo. A retro designed sneaker that hints at the same vibe of the now popular Adidas Continental 80. Designed with a leather upper and featuring premium suede overlays, this shoe is complete with tonal lining and a classic gum rubber outsole. A timeless sneaker that can be worn with anything in your streetwear wardrobe. The Butter Goods x Puma Slipstream Lo is completed with traditional foam cushioning and perforated details for extra breathability, alongside the golden branding.
Finishing off this collaboration of brands includes apparel that follows a similar style from the same era. Replicating vintage sportswear style with a crewneck, t-shirt and a tracksuit. Geometric shapes, use of colour and quality fabrication curate a perfect blend of athletic and streetwear styles, bringing a ready-to-go nostalgic collection.
