New Balance's 2002R "Retro Future" (better known as the Protection Pack) is a lifestyle shoe that took over the sneakerhead markets in August last year — already perfectly poised for wear on city streets, today, the Boston-based footwear brand is adding another layer of protection to the 2002R with a brand new "Protection Pack" that brings some extra flair to your streetwear wardrobe and sneaker rotation. The three-shoe drop includes two pairs in subtle, neutral tones and one in striking vintage orange which will make any outfit pop.
New Balance has been around since the beginning. One of their most iconic shoe, the 2002R, was first released in 1972 and became wildly popular among athletes and fans alike. The sneaker's name comes from its unique sole—the number 2 stands for its double-stitched rubber soles and R means "rubber."
Launched as a solo-effort and driven by designer Yue Wu, the “Refined Future” lineup has gone on to top wish-lists among countless sneaker collectors. The three-pair collection shows that high-quality craftsmanship and a well-thought-out execution trumps any limited stock quantity or high-profile collaboration, as the shoes immediately sold out.
The M2002R Protection Pack was conceptualized by NB designer Yue Wu and first introduced last year, since the first release, this pack has gone on to top wish-lists among countless sneaker collectors. The pack reimagines the 2002R model, also dubbed "dad shoes," with a premium leather upper and an updated tread pattern it has proven that high-quality craftsmanship and a well-thought-out execution trumps any limited stock quantity or high-profile collaboration, as the shoes immediately sold out.
The latest NB "Protection Pack" is comprised of three pairs made from premium pig suede, ultra-comfortable NERGY cushioning and “vintage” aesthetic work together to create a modern style. In addition to upcoming heritage-inspired “Steel Blue” and “Mirage Grey” colorways, the “Refined Future” options prepped for 2022 include a bold “Vintage Orange” pair.
